| Nathan Davis, Tipton, Indiana
While visiting the EAA's 2003 AirVenture airshow in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Ulli was impressed by the markings and reflections on the highly polished surfaces of this WWII P-51D Mustang, owned by Mr. Nathan Davis of Tipton, Indiana. Mr. Davis later acquired the painting from Ulli for his private collection of aviation artwork.

| John Tumblin, Burlington, North Carolina
WWII veteran John Tumblin of Burlington, North Carolina, picks up his painting in Ulli's studio on April 4th, 2007. John was a crew member of a US Navy blimp such as the one in the painting. In one of the least reported but most successful chapters of the war, John and his fellow Navy air crewmen played a key role in anti-submarine warfare along the coasts of North and South America, and accompanied convoys far out to sea in their mission to provide life-sustaining supplies to the British population and to allied troops. The pastel depiction of a Navy blimp guarding a convoy is set against a brilliant dusk sky, evoking both the spectacular scenes that John experienced as a young man, and also the menace of U-boots, always lurking in the darkness.
